Mumbai: Navneet Rana, an Independent MP from Amravati, will appear before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee today to defend herself on her arrest and the mistreatment meted out to her in jail. During this time, Navneet Rana will record her oral statement before the committee. Navneet will appear before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee at Annexe Extension, Parliament House at 12 noon today.  

Navneet Rana had announced to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree, the residence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai. After that, she also went to jail. She had alleged that she was treated inhumanly at the police station. The deputy secretary of the committee, said that the committee will hear the serious allegations of breach of privilege regarding Navneet Rana's complaint. Because Navneet had alleged that the police had arrested her illegally. She was treated inhumanly at the Khar police station.

Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana were arrested by the Mumbai Police on April 23 after announcing that they would read the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's private residence Matoshree. After being released from jail on May 5, the Rana couple had visited Delhi and met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. It also sought a hearing before the Privileges Committee alleging misbehaviour by the Mumbai Police.
