Every year the festival of Navratri has started from today. Chaitra Navratri is starting from today. In this case, the mother Shailputri is worshiped on the first day of Chaitra Navratri. It is believed that by worshiping Goddess Shailputri on the first day in Navratri, one gets freedom from lunar defect. Due to being born as the daughter of the Himalayas, the goddess was named Shailputri.

Mythology - Dakshaprajapati performed the yajna. All the gods were invited in it but Lord Shiva was not invited. Sati got excited to go to the yagna. Lord Shiva refused to go to the function without invitation, but on the request of Sati, he gave permission to her to go. Sati was insulted when she went there. Sadly, Sati consumed herself in Yagyagni. Then Lord Shiva got angry and destroyed the yagna. The same Sati was born in the next life as the daughter of Shailraj Himalaya.
