In the capital city of India, 12 assembly seats are reserved for scheduled castes. Electoral history shows that the party which won these seats has been successful in reaching the power of Delhi. This is a big challenge for the BJP. Except the first election held in 1993 after the formation of the assembly, the party could not win more than two reserved seats in a single election.

In the first election, the party won 8 of these seats and came to power in Delhi. However, in the Lok Sabha elections held in May, the BJP had an edge over all these seats, due to which the leaders of the party are excited and they are hoping to change the situation this time.

Congress used to dominate the reserved seats, but this situation has changed since the year 2013. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has dominated the last two elections. It won nine seats in 2013 and currently holds all these constituencies. AAP is trying its best to retain its hold. On the other hand, Congress is trying to regain its support base in these seats. The BJP is also expecting better performance on these seats this time.
