BHUBANESWAR: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has issued a notice to the Odisha government, requesting a report on a disaster at the JSW BPSL factory, which resulted in the burn injuries of four contractual labourers.  The NCST panel has also requested a detailed report on the action taken by the Chief Secretary and DGP of Odisha within 15 days of receiving the notice.

"In exercise of the competence granted on it by Article 388A of the Indian Constitution, the Commission has resolved to investigate/inquire into the subject. Within 15 days of receiving the notice, you must submit the facts and information on the actions taken in response to the allegations/matter to the undersigned "read the notice that was sent out on Wednesday.

If no response is received within the specified time, the Commission has threatened to issue summonses for personal attendance.

As per reports, four labourers from Titeimal village in Jharsuguda district's Bhalaida panchayat, Karan Oram, Nilamani Oram, Anjan Oram, and Ashok Dhurua, all inhabitants of Titeimal village in Bhalaida panchayat, suffered burn injuries of varied degrees in a tragedy in the panel on March 11.

Two of them were sent to the Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela and two others to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla after receiving primary treatment at the plant dispensary, according to the source.

Tankadhar Tripathy, the Odisha BJP secretary, recently said that the company has yet to compensate the four contractual labourers who suffered burn injuries while executing their duties at the facility.
