New Delhi :National Democratic Allience Candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh elected as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman with 125 votes. On the other hand United Progressive Alliance (UPA)'s  candidate BK Hariprasad got 105 votes.

Earlier Looking at Congress's attitude AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that they have decided to abstain from voting for Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman. He asserted, “ Congress is the biggest obstacle in Opposition's unity”.

Arun Jaitley and other BJP MPs  were present in Rajya Sabha ahead of voting for Deputy Chairman elections.

“Biju Janta Dal supporting JDU since JDU and BJD have similar ideological origins-emerging from Jay Prakash Narayan movement. Congress candidate was AICC in charge of Odisha till recently and  was vitriolic in his statements against BJD and State,” read BJD Statement on RS Deputy Chairman polls.

We are confident of our win and election result is a foregone conclusion: Harivansh Narayan Singh, NDA's candidate earlier said before the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman polls held.

Meanwhile V. Vijayasai Reddy,YSR Congress MP said that we have decided to abstain from voting for Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman elections. Both Congress and BJP have not fulfilled the promises made to Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier a day BJP has issued a three line whip to its Rajya Sabha MPs to be present in the house today.
