Riding high on their thumping victory from Maharashtra in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party’s National Democratic Alliance partner Shiv Sena lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the latest edition of its mouthpiece Saamna.

“The people of India wanted to choose their prime minister. They didn’t want to keep anybody in between. Because of that, a lot of people who wished to be kingmakers collapsed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s victory is undisputed,” the Sena mouthpiece wrote in its article.

The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won a whopping 41 parliamentary seats in Maharashtra, repeating their 2014 feat. While the BJP secured 23 Lok Sabha seats this year, the Shiv Sena won 18. Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party won a meagre 5 seats in the state.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been clinical in making sure the NDA sweeps the general elections in Maharashtra. Fadnavis made sure both the BJP and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena were hand-in-gloves before, during and after the general elections. This proved crucial in the way the alliance routed the Congress from the state.
