Tauktae LIVE Update: Worst is over, NDRF chief states cyclone will become a depression soon

Cyclone Tauktae made landfall over the Gujarat coast on Monday night. The weather department assured about the intense speed the storm was coming towards the coastal areas. The good news has come out that it has weakened into a severe cyclonic storm from a very severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday morning.

After the landfall the system is very likely to re-curve north-northeastwards, across Gujarat and weaken gradually. It is expected to weaken gradually and transform into a depression over Rajasthan soon by today evening. The cyclonic storm landfall process of the eye of the Tauktae hit the Gujarat coast in Saurashtra region between Diu and Una while, ended around midnight. IMD states that it has crossed the Gujarat coast as an “extremely severe cyclonic storm” and gradually weakened. On Tuesday morning, it lay over the Saurashtra region near Amreli and then was likely to weaken into a cyclonic storm by the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Mumbai witnessed heavy rains, strong winds, and water logging as Tauktae skirted the city’s coast on Monday. The cyclonic storm going from a Category 1 storm to a Category 4 storm has made damage of properties more than life. Covid-19 patients were shifted earlier as a concern to Jumbo Covid centres and vaccination was halted in many parts as the city dealt with the first severe cyclone of 2021.
