Need to regain trust between Maldives and India: Former Maldives foreign affairs minster

NEW DELHI : Former Maldives foreign affairs minister Dunya Maumoon met with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday. She extended hand of friendship towards India and said that both countries need to regain the trust.

After meeting with Sushma Swaraj, Dunya Maumoon took to Twitter and shared her views on the relationship with two countries. Her tweet reads It was such a pleasure to call on my friend HE @SushmaSwaraj to pass on greetings from my father. HE @maumoonagayoom built a warm friendship between our countries while he was in office. We need to regain the trust between our countries.

Recently, The relationship between India and Maldives have been affected due to male snubbed helicopters and work permit of India. The another reason which strained the relations of these country is that Maldives’s Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pakistan to get help for developing its infrastructure in power sector.

Foreign affairs minister Dunya Maumoon is he daughter of former President of the Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom who served the country as the President of Maldives from 1978 to 2008.

Recently,  Ibrahim Solih won the Maldives elections in a surprise victory, ousting Abdulla Yameen from power and this change of government can reflect on the its relations with India
