The Central Government has agreed to the request of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan regarding tenure extension of CS. The state government on Friday issued fresh orders to this effect after the Union Ministry of Training and Personnel (DOPT) gave the green signal to the CM's request to extend the tenure of Chief Minister Neelam Sahni for another three months. Neelam Sahni's tenure in the IAS 1984 batch was to end by next month.

However, CM Jagan had written a letter to the Center seeking an extension of the tenure in view of the situation in the state and the shortage of senior officers, to the extent that the DWTP had issued directions extending the extension till September 30. However, CM Jagan wrote a letter to the Center asking it to extend the tenure once again as the role of CS is crucial in the process of redistricting. With the approval of the second extension as well, the state general administration department on Friday ordered the CS tenure. According to the new orders, Neelam Sahni will continue as the Chief Secretary to the State Government till December 31, 2020.

Meanwhile, the state finance ministry on Friday announced a study committee on the steps to be taken for the formation of new districts. The CCLA Commissioner, GAD Secretary, Planning Secretary, CMVO Officer and Principal Finance Secretary will continue to be members of the CS-led committee. The committee convener will be the principal finance secretary and the committee will have to submit its report within three months.
