State-run North Eastern Electric Power Corporation today reported a 96 % surge in net profit at Rs 341.62 crore in the six months period ended March 31. Company said,“The company had posted a net profit of Rs 174.18 crore in the same period a year ago”.

As per statement, “the company's income from operations increased to Rs 864.19 crore in the second half of 2015-16 fiscal compared with Rs 855.48 crore in the year-ago period.”

In the whole fiscal, the company's net profit stood at Rs 438.68 crore as against Rs 318.53 crore in the earlier fiscal.

Electricity generation is the principal activity of the corporation. Other operations like interest income from power bond investment does not form a reportable segment.
