Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra says he is not bothered by his rivals' excellent performance at the start of the season but said he too wants to throw a throw of 90m this year. Reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada and Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Jakub Wallach of the Czech Republic have also thrown throws of 93.07 and 90.88m respectively in the Doha Diamond League on May 13.
Neeraj Chopra, in an online conversation with his practice centre in Turkey, has said that I am not taking the pressure of distance. Peters and Jakub are engaged in a lot of hard work, due to this, they have also done well. My dream is to cross 90 metres and I am going to try this year. I know that competition is tough and growing. It depends on the day's performance, the weather and other conditions. I'm usually not thinking about getting ahead of someone's performance or a record. My focus remains on my best performance.
Chopra is currently practicing with coach Klaus Bartoniese in Antalya, Turkey. His best individual performance is 88.07m. He is set to be seen playing the first competition of the season in Finland, where he will face Peters and Germany's Johannes Vetter, who has also hit a throw above 90 meters several times. After which he will take part in the Kuorten Games in Finland in June where he finished third last year. My goal is to do well in the World Championships. Apart from that, I would like to win gold again in the Commonwealth Games.
