Indian women's boxers Neetu (48kg) and Anamika (50kg) have won the first round of the 73rd Strandzha Memorial Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.
On Monday, Neetu defeated Russia's Chumgalakova Ilya 5-0, while Anamika defeated Chukanova Jalatislava 4-1 to advance to the last eight. Neetu and Anamika will take on Italy's Roberta Bonati and Algeria's Romessa Boyalem. On the other hand, Education (54kg) and Akash (67kg) have crashed out after losing their respective bouts. Education was defeated by former Kazakhstan champion and Asian gold champion Dina Jholaman and Akash was defeated by Germany's Daniel Croter.
Both have also suffered defeats by a margin of 0-5. On Tuesday, youth world champion Arundhati Chaudhary (71kg), national champion Rohit Mor (57kg) and six other Indian boxers are all set to start their campaign. According to reports, 450 boxers from 36 countries are participating in the tournament. Out of these, 17 boxers are included in the tournament from India. Last time, India has also won two medals in this tournament.
