BANGALORE: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday that, the first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru deserves credit for elevating India to a global level.

Speaking after garlanding the statue of Pandit Nehru on his birth anniversary in Vidhana Soudha BangaloreBommai said Pandit Nehru loved children and his birth anniversary is celebrated as the children's day. With Mahatma Gandhi, known as the "Father of the Nation," Pandit Nehru had a close working relationship. He worked arduously for the country's development and staunchly backed Gandhiji during the country's struggle for independence.

He established the framework for growth as the nation's first prime minister. He collaborated admirably with General Tito on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the international level, according to Chief Minister Bommai.
CM Bommai said, India continues to play a significant role in Non-Aligned Movement. Children's Day is observed on the day of his birthday. There was also Chief Secretary Vandita Sharma, Minister Halappa Achar, and others.

Politicians from all across party lines paid tribute to Jawahar lal Nehru. Mamata Banerjee pays tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary: On the occasion of the former prime minister's birthday, Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, also  paid tribute to him on Monday. On the anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru's birth, Banerjee wrote on her social media page, "Tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru."

On Children's Day, the chief minister also sent her greetings and best wishes.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge honoured former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the occasion of his birthday and referred to him as a "champion" of democracy. Kharge said on Twitter as follows: "Pandit Nehru is credited with creating modern India. Without his enormous contribution, 21st century India is unimaginable." "His progressive ideas, which he championed as a proponent of democracy, helped India's social, political, and economic development despite obstacles. My sincere respects to a real patriot, "The head of Congress said.

Later, at Shanti Van here, Kharge and his predecessor Sonia Gandhi presented flower tributes to Nehru.
