Many women have made a significant contribution to the Indian freedom struggle. It also honours Vijay Laxmi Pandit, who is known more as the sister of India's first PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. But very few people know that she was an ambassador of many countries, including the United Nations President, and the Governor of Maharashtra for many years. She was also known to most of the diplomats who successfully represented India in international for a on several occasions.

Vijay Laxmi Pandit was born on August 18, 1900, at Motilal Nehru's house in Allahabad, making her the younger sister of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.  As a child, his name was Swarup Kumari, who he changed after marrying lawyer Ranjit Sitaram Pandit. She was one of the leading women in the 20th century world. Vijay Laxmi Pandit was a powerful freedom fighter of his time and was also jailed for freedom movements in 1932-33, 1940 and 1942-43 for the country's independence. She was elected as a member of the United Provinces Assembly in 1937, but resigned due to opposition from the 1939 Agrajs over World War II.

After the country's independence, she was India's ambassador to Ireland from 1955 to 1961. She was also the Indian High Commissioner of Britain and India's Ambassador to Spain from 1958 to 1961. She was also governor of Maharashtra from 1962 to 1964 and a Lok Sabha MP from 1964 to 1968. He retired from Politics in the last years of 1960, but returned to politics in the 1970s to oppose the Emergency and opposed his own niece Indira Gandhi.  He then represented India in the Un Human Rights Commission in 1978. The great leader passed away in Dehradun on December 01, 1990.
