Nepal: The Nepal Army expressed sorrow on Thursday over the death of Indian Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, who was killed along with 12 others in a chopper crash in Tamil Nadu the day before.

The Nepal Army issued a statement expressing its condolences for the deaths of Rawat, Nepal's Honorary Chief of the Army Staff, his wife Madulika, and 11 other military members.

According to the statement, Nepal Army Chief of Army Staff General Prabhu Ram Sharma expressed his condolences to the Indian Army and General Rawat's family by phone and mail on Wednesday evening. The tragic occurrence, as well as the irreparable loss to the Indian Army and the death of a great friend to the Nepal Army, shook General Sharma.

On March 29, 2017, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari bestowed upon General Rawat the honorary title of Nepal Army. He was the Chief Guest for Nepal Army Day in Kathmandu in 2018. Bal Krishna Karki, a senior Nepal Army general, is expected to attend Rawat's funeral in New Delhi.
