Nepal announced a nationwide lockdown last week to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The number of corona positive cases in the country has reached five. According to the figures released by Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 1255 stranded tourists have been evacuated from 19 locations across the country. The Nepal government has banned the climbing of all the Himalayan peaks of the country, including the world's highest Mount Everest, earlier this month due to the Coronavirus.

According to the information received, Nepal Tourism Board Executive Head Dhananjay Regmi told ANI that we have been successful in bringing 158 people including international and domestic tourists stranded in Lukla as well as Nepali tour guides and porters. Out of these 56 people have been evacuated by Tara Air, 51 by Sumit Air and another 51 by Sita Air. Chartered flights were operated in association with the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the US Embassy, the British Embassy, the Russian Embassy and local government bodies.
