Nepal elected its first Communist Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and this marks the first tenure of a Prime Minister in the new national constitution. Nepal has transformed from a Hindu Monarchy to a Federal Republic.

The Oli’s communist party swept away majority in both the houses of Parliament and won six out of the seven provincial assemblies. The communist party removed the Nepali Congress from power which is led by Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Nepali Prime Minister until now. Deuba submitted his resignation to the President Bidya Devi Bhandari after the Election Commission submitted the results of the polls to her earlier.

“The elections to three tiers of government—753 local bodies, seven provincial assemblies, and a federal parliament--have been successfully held under my leadership setting the foundation to end a long transition,” said Deuba addressing the nation.

The Communist party and its allies have already proposed before President to form a new government.

Nepal has had 11 prime ministers since the civil war ended in 2006. This led corruption prevail in Nepal and the nation saw no growth. The Nepali population is hopeful that this new government will change the fate of Nepal and will develop the nation. There is a need for stability in the government given the last PM too lasted for just eight months.
