Nepal starts second phase of Covid-19 vaccination

Nepal has started the second phase of vaccination with the India-made Covid vaccine on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, in the second drive the Covishield vaccine is being fitted to journalists, diplomatic mission officials and frontline government employees. Nepal's Coordinator of Covid Vaccination Advisory Committee, Dr. Shyamraj Upreti shared that the grants were made available by the Government of India.

The Covishield vaccine is scheduled to be given to 300,000 Frontier journalists, diplomats and government officials in the second phase. In the first step, there was a project to give a total of 430,000 doses of vaccine, but only 184,857 persons have been given the vaccine. The second phase of vaccination is scheduled to continue till Friday and around 300,000 persons are being vaccinated in this phase.

The first vaccination campaign started on 27 January. The first phase consisted of first aid workers, sanitation workers, ambulance drivers, and security officers, while the second campaign involved officers of land revenue, officers of administrative units around the country. Priority is being given to survey staff, bankers and journalists.
