Kathmandu: Neighbouring Nepal has launched a National Census (Census) programme in its country. Through the census, Nepal is once again trying to assert its authority over the disputed areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiadhura. Nepalese authorities have said they are trying to "contact" Indian authorities to conduct a national census in the disputed area.
"We are trying to contact Indian authorities through the Ministry of External Affairs to conduct censuses in those three areas," Nabin Lal Shrestha, director-general of Nepal's Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), said during a press conference to simplify the process of gathering information from disputed areas, Planning to use satellite technology.
'We have to enter the area to collect data, which requires permission from Indian security personnel stationed there,' said Tirth Chaulagai, information officer at the CBS. According to Chaulagai, about 700 to 800 people live in five villages in the disputed area. Those homes have been listed in the census.
