Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under increasing international and domestic pressure following the recent deaths of six hostages in Gaza. US President Joe Biden has criticized Netanyahu, stating he has not done enough to secure the release of captives.

In response to the escalating situation, Britain announced it would suspend some arms exports to Israel, citing a significant risk of these weapons being used in a serious breach of international humanitarian law.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant expressed deep disappointment over Britain's decision. Netanyahu, addressing the situation in a televised press conference, apologized for his failure to save the hostages and vowed severe retaliation against Hamas. He emphasized that Israel would not make concessions in ceasefire negotiations with Gaza.

Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida warned that the remaining hostages might return "in coffins" if Israel continues its military actions. The group has issued new instructions to militants on how to handle captives if Israeli troops approach.

In Washington, President Biden met with US negotiators working with Qatar and Egypt to broker a truce that would involve freeing Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the remaining hostages. Biden expressed skepticism about Netanyahu's efforts to secure a deal.

The conflict has led to widespread grief and anger in Israel. On Sunday, the military reported recovering the bodies of six hostages captured during Hamas's attack on October 7. The discovery has fueled protests, with demonstrators in Tel Aviv demanding an immediate resolution and accusing the government of prolonging the war.

Amid the conflict, Gaza is facing severe humanitarian challenges. The territory is largely in ruins, with many residents living in dire conditions. A recent polio vaccination campaign was launched following the first confirmed case in 25 years. However, ongoing military actions have hampered relief efforts, with reports of further strikes on Gaza City and southern Khan Younis.

The violence has also spread to the West Bank and Israel's border area with Lebanon. In Jenin, local residents reported extensive destruction caused by Israeli military operations. Recent airstrikes and clashes in the region have resulted in additional casualties, including the death of a boy in Tulkarem and three Israeli police officers in the southern West Bank. In Lebanon, an Israeli strike killed two individuals in the south.
