USA: According to a Netflix quote, "love is sharing a password." The company's opinions have definitely evolved. It no longer views password sharing in the same way. In fact, the industry leader in streaming began cracking down on password sharing in July of last year. The streaming platform's subscribers in 103 countries, including the US and UK, are now being affected by the crackdown.

Netflix has long permitted users to give their accounts to friends and family. But in 2022, things started to alter. For the first time in ten years, the company experienced subscriber losses last year. It named password sharing as the main cause of the slowing subscriber growth. Despite adding users in the latter half of 2022, Netflix has maintained its strict policy against password sharing.

Through blog posts, Netflix announced its decision to stop password sharing in many nations. Users who share their Netflix account with people "outside their household," according to the company, will receive an email. The Netflix password can still be given out by the account holder to someone who lives outside the home. But for that, the streaming service will charge more.

What does Netflix consider a "household" to be? It is possible to set up a "Netflix Household" using a TV. The entire household will be regarded as using the same internet connection as the TV. The business uses data from account activity, device IDs, and IP addresses to determine whether a device is a member of the same household.

A household may only use one Netflix account, according to the service. That does not imply that those who share a Netflix account must live together all the time.
The company continued, "Everyone in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on vacation." The company has also disclosed the additional fees for people living outside the home.

Subscribers to the Netflix Standard plan have the option to add one more user who can access the streaming service from a different location. For the additional US user, they will be charged an additional $7.99 per month.

The ability to add two more users is available to premium members. Each will be the same price. Users of the Basic or Standard with Ads plans are unable to add more members.

In a few countries in Latin America, Netflix started to crack down on password sharing. Later, in February of this year, it extended tests to include Canada, New Zealand, Portugal, and Spain. Currently, the plan is available in more nations, including Australia, Germany, Singapore, and Malaysia. India has not yet experienced it because the company is concentrating on growing its user base there.
