India: Netflix announced on Tuesday that it is cutting its monthly subscription costs in India by up to 60 percent in order to woo users amid increasing competition in the 'Over the Top'(OTT) industry in the nation.

Netflix's Mobile will now cost Rs 149 per month (down from Rs 199 before), while the Basic plan will cost Rs 199 per month (down from Rs 499 previously). The Standard plan would cost Rs 499 per month, while the Premium plan will cost Rs 649 per month. Previously, these plans were priced at Rs 649 and Rs 799, respectively.

"We're lowering our prices across the board," says the company. This will cover all of our services, both local and international. Because we want customers to watch Netflix on a wider screen or on any device, the Basic plan has been reduced by 60 pc, from Rs 499 to Rs 199," Netflix Vice President – Content (India) Monika Shergill explained.

Since its inception in India in 2016, Netflix has been a premium service, with subscription rates starting at around Rs 500. Since then, the business has modified pricing and added a mobile-only plan to the country's offerings. "We've had a lot of momentum since we arrived in India, especially in the last two years." We were more of a service that brought worldwide material when we came in, it claimed.
