Aizawl: The Mizoram government on Friday issued new Covid-19 guidelines in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area. Schools and hostels for class 10 and 12 students appearing for board exams next year will now be allowed to fully reopen in the AMC area, amid new relaxations as per the new guidelines. Schools and hostels were closed till now in the AMC area. A government order said that the new guidelines will be applicable from October 31 to November 30. In Covid-19 free towns and villages outside the AMC area, the government has already allowed reopening of schools (for KG to Class 12) and Anganwadi centers on August 15.
However, in all parts of the state, church congregations are allowed only during the day. Earlier, daytime mass services were allowed only on Sundays and Sabbaths (Saturdays). The guidelines state that singing during church services or gatherings is strictly prohibited. Villages and towns have been allowed to fully reopen educational institutions under arrangements in consultation with the Deputy Commissioners concerned and district level officers of the Health Department and other departments and village task forces. Night curfew will continue from 9 pm to 4 am at all district headquarters including state capital Aizawl.
The tally in Mizoram climbed to 1,20,088 on Friday as 592 more people, including 155 children, have tested positive for the infection. The death toll rose to 427, as three more people succumbed to the infection. The official said the one-day positive rate was 8.95 per cent as fresh cases were detected from the testing of 6,614 samples. At least 1,094 people have recovered from the disease between Thursday and Friday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,12,846, he said. The number of active cases now stands at 6,815.
