The Telangana government has extended the liquor licenses till November 30. The last date for obtaining the license was supposed to expire on October 30, but it was extended for another month. The new excise policy will come into effect from November 1. Around 2,000 licensed liquor shops are in wait. Telangana government for the first time announced liquor license reservation for SC, ST and BC, which is a part of the new excise policy.

There is a possibility that the license fee will increase with the new policy. After the announcement of the new liquor policy by the government, the excise department said that they are also planning to give concessions in license fee and application fee to SC and ST communities. Reservation has been given by the government to encourage the entrepreneurs of backward castes by giving reservation in tenders and auctions of liquor shops.

The state government currently earns more than Rs 25,000 crore annually from the sale of liquor in the state. Reliable sources said that the license fee will increase from 15% to 40%. In districts, fees will increase by 25%, in municipalities from about 30% to 35% and in areas with 20 lakh or more people, by 40%. Moreover, the officials have planned to increase the application fee from the existing Rs 2 lakh. In 2019, the application fee was increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. The government received 48213 applications from retailers and generated an income of Rs 972 crore at that time.
