Panaji: New Goa International Airport will officially start operations today January 5th, with IndiGo flight 6E 6145 from Hyderabad arriving at 09:00. The much-awaited airport is located in North Goa and has already attracted more than  200 services, with even more in the pipeline. 

Budget carrier Go First on December 9, announced 42 non-stop weekly flights to and from, soon-to-be inaugurated New Goa International Airport (Mopa, North Goa) effective from January 5, 2023.

Ex-post facto clearance was given by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday to rename Goa's Greenfield International Airport Mopa as the "Manohar International Airport -- Mopa, Goa" in honour of the late Manohar Parrikar, a former defence minister and four-term chief minister of Goa.

As per an official statement, the Goa State Government's Cabinet unanimously decided to rename Greenfield International Airport, Mopa, Goa as "Manohar International Airport - Mopa, Goa" in order to satisfy the people of the state's long-held desires.
"The Airport has been named after Late Manohar Parrikar, former Chief Minister and Former-Defense Minister of Union of India in recognition of his contribution to building modern Goa," the release added.

The Mopa Airport will improve accessibility to North Goa and cut down road travel time significantly. The additional capacity will help increase capacity to Goa as well, attracting more passengers and even international services.

Goa is the tourism hub of India and offers a wide range of attractions, including beaches, natural beauty, nightlife, and more. Due to its significance, the city receives millions of annual visitors, mostly from within the country but also a sizable number from abroad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the greenfield airport at Mopa last month.
