The Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari said that the Highway authority is aiming to build a pathway that connects metro cities like Mumbai and gurugram in the coming three years.

 The present distance between the two cities are 1,450 kilometers via national highway 8 , it will be reduced to 1,250 kilometers. Now, it will take about 12 hours to travel.

 The main motive is to bring development to the undeveloped regions and hinterland in the states of Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh to increase growth in commercial and industrial sectors and hence generating jobs.The project aims not only  to just expand the existing pathways but to build new highways to bring symmetry.

The minister said that the construction will be started at 40 locations simultaneously , since the expressway passes through rural and backward areas the expenses for the land is going to be less. Likely to be in the range of rupees 5,000 crore to rupees 6,000 crore , which is almost one third of what NHAI spent for the delhi-jaipur expressway.

The highway ministry is working to extend the delhi-jaipur expressway till vadodara  since the Mumbai- vadodara stretch is already under construction. Connecting the two will automatically bring convenience as Mumbai and Gurugram are two metro cities which can bring development to the connecting rural regions of other states.

The project would cost around rupees 60,000 crore.
