The central government has issued new guidelines for air passengers regarding the use of internet services during flight. Why did the government take this step?

The main reason cited by the government for taking this step is to avoid interference with terrestrial mobile networks. Earlier, in 2020, the government allowed airlines flying in India to provide free Wi-Fi to passengers during flights. After this, many restrictions imposed on passengers were removed. Now, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has clarified that passengers will be able to use Wi-Fi in flights, but certain conditions have to be followed for this.

Wi-Fi Terms of Use

Captain's authority: The captain of the aircraft will have the authority to turn Wi-Fi on or off.
Take-off and landing: Wi-Fi will be turned off during take-off and landing.
Stable speed: Wi-Fi will be turned on only when the aircraft is at take-off stable speed, i.e. when the aircraft reaches normal altitude.
