New Delhi: The construction work of the new Parliament House has begun today. PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the project a month ago under the government's ambitious Central Vista redevelopment plan. The new Parliament Building will be of triangular shape. It is expected to be ready by the country's 75th Independence Day in 2022. The government wants to start the monsoon session of 2022 in the new building.
An official informed that the construction work of the new Parliament House has started. PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the project on December 10. The building is being constructed under Tata Projects Limited. The project is estimated to cost Rs 971 crore. Earlier this week, the 14-member heritage committee gave the green signal to the construction of the new Parliament House. It also approved the Central Vista redevelopment project.
The apex court had ordered the Centre to seek the approval of the Committee and other concerned departments before starting the construction work. The construction work could not start earlier as the government had assured the apex court that neither the construction nor breaking work would be started unless the court decides on all the petitions pending in the case.
