Madhya Pradesh: Bhopal is expecting the arrival of the next set of Metro train coaches within the next one and a half to two months. The remaining sets of the train will follow in a phased manner. Once the project is complete, a total of 27 metro trains will operate in the city.
Recently, a successful trial run of the first Metro train was conducted in Bhopal. These metro coaches are being manufactured at ALSTOM's Savli plant in Vadodara, Gujarat. The cost for one set of Metro coaches, consisting of three modern coaches with engines, amounts to approximately Rs 27 crore. This cost covers production, design, commissioning, and maintenance.
A senior officer associated with the project stated that as the project progresses, more sets of trains will be introduced in phases, with all 27 sets expected to be operational in Bhopal by 2026.
The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited disclosed that after the trial run of the first set of metro trains, additional trials will be conducted to increase the train's speed. During the initial trial, the speed ranged from 10 to 15 km per hour, whereas the train is designed to run at around 90 km per hour. Further testing is essential before commercial operations can begin.
Typically, a Metro train is allowed to commence commercial operations only after at least six months of trial runs and a minimum of 2,000 km covered during testing. Commercial operation of the Metro in Bhopal is anticipated in May and June.
