Lucknow: In a decisive verdict, the NIA Special Court in Lucknow has imposed the death penalty upon Atif Muzaffar and Mohammed Faisal Khan. They were found guilty of the heinous murder of retired school principal Ram Babu Shukla in Kanpur. Their sinister motive behind this cruel act was to further the agenda of the ISIS, intending to instill widespread fear and terror within the populace.
The court has levied charges against the two individuals under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302 (pertaining to murder) and Section 120 B (related to criminal conspiracy). Additionally, they have been held accountable under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Furthermore, the court has imposed a substantial fine of Rs 5 lakh on each of the convicted perpetrators. This momentous judgment was delivered by Special Judge NIA Court Dinesh Kumar Mishra.
The tragic incident took place on October 24, 2016, when Ram Babu Shukla, a retired principal of Swami Atmaprakash Brahmchari Junior High School in Kanpur, was brutally attacked and killed while riding his bicycle on his way home. The assailants struck near the village of Pyondi in Kanpur. Subsequently, the case was entrusted to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in November 2017.
After a meticulous and extensive investigation, the anti-terror agency filed a charge sheet against the two perpetrators on July 12, 2018. This investigation uncovered the distressing truth that the accused had been radicalized by the extremist ideology of ISIS. They were determined to target individuals they deemed as disbelievers. It is worth noting that a third accomplice, Mohammad Saifulla, tragically lost his life in Lucknow during an exchange of gunfire with the Anti-Terrorist Squad on March 7, 2017.
