Bangalore: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday (June 30, 2022) carried out raids at 13 places in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka in connection with the killing of a 26-year-old Bajrang Dal activist named Harsha. All those whose houses were searched are suspects in the Harsha murder case. According to the report, the NIA team had reached Shivamogga in eight vehicles on Thursday. The team then left after raiding the houses of the suspects.
Regarding the operation, an official said that various digital devices, including mobile phones, SIM cards, memory cards, hard disks and other objectionable materials and documents, have been recovered from the houses of the accused and suspects during printing. It may be recalled that Bajrang dal activist Harsha was killed during a hijab dispute in the Shivamogga district on February 20, 2022. The involvement of Islamic fundamentalists in Harsha's murder had come to light. There were many such posts on social media, in which Harsha was targeted by fundamentalists.
The radical angle in Harsha's murder case had come to the fore. In this Harsha murder case, the Karnataka Police had invoked sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against all the 10 accused. On this issue, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai had said that it is a much bigger matter than what is visible in this case.
Let us know that UAPA is mostly imposed in cases where there is an issue related to national security or there is a suspicion of a big conspiracy against the country. Later on March 23, the investigation of the case was handed over to the NIA. This is what the NIA has done.
