Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, 16 accused arrested by the NIA in a bid to form an Ansarullah terrorist organization were handed over to the NIA on eight-day remand by a special NIA court. They are accused of raising funds for anti-counterfeiting activities. The court remanded the accused to NIA custody from 5 pm on Friday evening to 26th July.

Presenting a petition for 10-days custody of the accused, the NIA Special Public Prosecutor said that the agency needs to take the accused to several places to verify the evidence collected during the investigation. The NIA told Judge P. Chetturpandy that the accused need to be interrogated to find out the sources of funds and unearth a major conspiracy.

A case has been registered against Ansarullah for plotting to wage a war against the Indian government. Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had conducted raids at the residence and office of Mohammad Bukhari, linked to Asarulla, in Chennai. The NIA had also raided the house of Hasan Ali Yunusmarikar and Harish Mohammad at Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu. Last year, the NIA along with Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police conducted searches in Amroha, Delhi and other parts of the country. According to the NIA, during the investigation, it was found that the accused involved in the module were plotting fidayeen attacks in and around Delhi.
