After shocking lost in the opening game against the same opponents, the Indian team managed to get past the hosts in the fourth game of the Nidahas Trophy, chasing down Sri Lanka's not-so-challenging total of 153 runs with nine balls to spare in the 19-over-a-side game. Indian dependable batsmen KL Rahul became the first Indian, and ninth batsman overall, to be hit wicket in a T20I. KL Rahul now led the tally of highest batting average in T20Is (50.89). Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has just one fifty-plus score in the last 11 innings.

Young speedster Thakur’s haul of 4 wickets for 27 runs was sweet revenge against Sri Lanka. In the first game against the hosts, he was hit for 27 runs in his first over of his spell and although he pulled things back later in the game, the early assault had ensured Sri Lanka snapped their seven-game losing streak in Twenty20s against India.

Earlier, India won the toss and decided to bowl in what turned out to be a 19-overs-a-side affair due to a 60-minute delayed start. Both teams came in with one change each. While India brought in KL Rahul for Rishabh Pant, Sri Lanka included Suranga Lakmal for the suspended Dinesh Chandimal.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 152/9 in 19 overs (Kusal Mendis 55, Upul Tharanga 22; Shardul Thakur 4-27, Washington Sundar 2-21) lost to India 153/4 in 17.3 overs (Manish Pandey 42*, Dinesh Karthik 39*; Akila Dananjaya 2-19, Nuwan Pradeep 1-30) by 6 wickets.
