Nifty Opens a little Higher; IT Stocks Gain

Indian indices on Friday opened higher. At 10:10 am, Nifty was at 15200, while Sensex was up by 93 points at 51625. Nifty Bank was also trading higher with gains of 0.3 percent. Meanwhile, broader markets lagged the benchmark indices by a tad. As of closing on Thursday, both the benchmark indices were up 1.6 percent for the week.

Wipro, Grasim Industries, Infosys, HCL Tech and Sun Pharma are among the major gainers, while losers included ITC, Coal India, Gail India, ONGC and Sun Pharma. Sectorally, Nifty IT was the outlier in trade with gains of over 1 percent.

ITC stocks lost the most by as much as 3.3 percent after reporting 11 percent decline in Q3 profit YoY at Rs 3,587 crore. Also the board declared an interim dividend of Rs 5 per share for the current financial year.

Most sectoral indices have opened flat. The Nifty Pharma and Nifty Media indices have opened 0.6 percent higher while the PSU Bank and FMCG indices are up 0.3 percent each.

Broader markets have had a mixed start to the session. The Midcap index moves in-line with the benchmarks, gaining 0.1 percent while the Smallcap index is outperforming, opening 0.6 percent higher.  Indigo shares also traded higher after the government raised fair price band and because of it, airfares shall see a hike by up to 30 percent.

Also, Asian markets were trading with losses with Japan down in trade at the time of writing this copy. US stock futures also showed weakness on all of the three major indices.
