Nifty, Sensex Gain For Third consecutive day Day Led By Reliance

Indian share markets closed higher for the second consecutive day with Sensex settled 258 higher at 51,039 while the NSE Nifty 50 index rose 115 points to end at 15,097. Both Sensex and Nifty ended over 350 and nearly 100 points off their respective day's high.

Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, TCS, NTPC, IndusInd Bank and ONGC were among the top movers in the Sensex.

PSU stocks continued to outperform in today's session with four out of the top 10 gainers on the Nifty 50 index being state-run companies. Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty Metal index ended as the top gainer, ending higher for the fourth straight day with gains of 4 percent. The index closed at the highest level in three years.

Among the other gainers of the day were the Realty, PSU Bank and Media indices which gained 1.7 percent, 1.2 percent and 1.3 percent respectively. The Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma index gained 0.9 percent each while the FMCG index underperformed.

The Nifty Midcap index rose 1.5 percent while the Smallcap index ended with gains of 1.4 percent.

Shares of public sector enterprises seen strong buying interest today day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong case for privatization of Public Sector Units and said that the government has "no business to be in business". He also emphasized that his government was working towards the mantra of "monetize or modernise" to benefit citizens.
