In the third round of Sharjah Masters, the strongest Open International Grand Master Chess Tournament in the history of chess, everyone's eyes were on the match between India's R. Praggyananda and World Woman Chess Champion Xu Wenjun, who was seen in excellent rhythm with white pieces. Playing the Open Catalan Opening, she made a very steady start and showed a very strong game, drawing the game in 41 moves. 

Reports say that there was no result in all the top 10 boards in the third round and the next result came from board number 11 where Iran's Amin Tabatabai defeated India's SP Sethuraman to claim his second win. On the 12th board, India's Nihal Sarin has joined the joint lead by scoring 2.5 points in a stunning 39-moves win over the white Mohoro in the Italian Opening. 

In other key matches for India, D Gukesh played out draws against compatriot SL Narayanan, Arjun Arigasi against Nugyen Thai Dan Van of Czech Republic and Arvind Chitambaram against Alexander Predke of Russia.
