Chandigarh: On Sunday, a group of people allegedly cut off the hands of a policeman while injuring two other policemen in Patiala district of Punjab. Police gave information in this regard. He told that a team of four-five 'Nihangas' (Sikhs who wear traditional weapons and wearing blue long shirts) were traveling in a vehicle and Mandi Board officials stopped them near a vegetable market at around 6.15 am.

Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said, "He was asked to show the curfew pass, but he hit the doors and blockers installed there from his car." He said that after this, these people attacked the policemen doing duty. Mandeep Singh said that, "The hand of an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was cut off with a sword."

He further said that the in-charge of Patiala Sadar police station was injured in the elbow while the hand of another police officer was also injured in this attack. ASI was taken to Rajendra Hospital from where he was referred to PGIMER Chandigarh. The SSP said that Nihang fled the spot after the attack. Later seven people including five Nihang Sikhs were arrested from a gurudwara.
