Defending world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg) and Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (70kg) have secured their place in the Indian squad for the Commonwealth Games with a dominating victory in the selection trials here on Saturday. Two-time Strandja Memorial Gold Medalist Nikhat defeated Meenakshi of Haryana 7-0 in a unanimous decision while Lovlina defeated Pooja of Railways by the same margin.

Neetu (48kg) and Jasmine (60kg) have also managed to make their place in the team for the Commonwealth Games. Nikhat looked completely in control of her bout and made full use of the ring with strong punches. Two-time former youth world champion Neetu also won a 5-2 win over 2019 silver medallist Manju Rani in a fractured decision.

The Boxer from Haryana has had a great year in which he also won a gold medal at the Strandja Memorial this year. 2021 Asian Youth Boxing Championship bronze medallist Jasmine defeated 2022 World Championship bronze medallist Parveen Hooda in the light-middleweight final. The Commonwealth Games have also been held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.
