Hyderabad, 22-year-old techie Nikhil Reddy made a feeble attempt to stand on his own feet on Friday, exactly 109 days after undergoing the controversial limb-lengthening surgery, but his broken legs could hold him only for two seconds.

Even for the two seconds, Nikhil had to use a walker. However, this was the first ever attempt made by his surgeon Dr G Chandra Bhushan to train Nikhil to stand on his feet after the operation.

"There is still no bone growth in the gap left after the limb lengthening surgery, making it difficult for him to take his body weight on his legs. Though he had a walker, he could not take the pain," said S Govardhan Reddy, Nikhil's father.

Nikhil Reddy's controversial case is under investigation by the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC), which took up the case suo motu on April 6, a day after his limb lengthening surgery at Global Hospital in the city came to light.
