Nine killed in truck mishap in Tamil Nadu

Monday, in the early morning, a truck rammed a van at Thappathi in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu in which nine people, including four women and a child, were killed. Suspected, all the deceased were passengers in the van. 

Police said “a group of people were returning to Irukkankudi in Virudhunagar district after attending a function at Pudiamputtur near Tuticorin when the accident happened.”

One of the tyres of the van burst. The driver was changing the tyre when a truck rammed the van from behind, killing eight people on the spot, police added.

Four others, who sustained serious injuries, were rushed to Government Hospital in Tuticorin where one of them died later.
