Test results of 68 people who had come in close contact with the 12- year-old child who succumbed to Nipah have been negative, till now, for the virus infection, Kerala Health Minister Veena George has said.
In a press release, the minister said samples of 22 more persons in the contact list came back negative, taking the total number of people who are in the clear to 61. She also said more samples would be tested during the day and that at present 64 persons were under observation at the Kozhikode Medical College and their health was stable.
89 people, who had no contact with the victim, were identified with minor symptoms of fever, during the house-to-house survey and mobile labs will be used to examine them and collect their samples for testing. As of Wednesday evening, the total number of people who tested negative was 46. The Health minister said the survey did not disclose any such unusual instances of illness or death which was good news.
On the coronavirus front, Kerala witnessed no respite as 26,200 new infections of the disease were logged on the day while 114 more people died. So far, 4,309,694 people have been infected with COVID and the death toll was recorded at 22,126, a bulletin from the state health department showed. The state currently has 236,345 active cases of the disease.
