KOZHIKODE: The National Virology Institute, Pune, in its report confirmed that the contagious fever due to which several people has killed in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts over the most recent fortnight is "rare and deadly" Nipah virus (NiV).

High Alert in Kerala after 3 deaths of "Rare and Deadly Nipah Virus" In Kozhikode and six more people succumbing to symptoms suspected on Sunday. The current toll increased to nine.

According to reports a high-level central team will visit the district on May 21 and inspect areas where the disease has been reported.

It is a worth mention here Nipah Virus which claimed 5 mystery Deaths in Kerala is spread by Bat Species and yet to get a Cure.

The Nipah virus which is a lesser studied virus and the World Health Organisation calls it “a newly emerging zoonosis that causes severe disease in both animals and humans. Unfortunately there are no known drugs or vaccines to treat this rare and deadly virus. 

The Director of Health service in Kerala, Dr RL Sarita, decided to form the task force after the meeting with top health department officials. A single window system has been put in place to keep an eye on emergency treatment to meet any eventuality.

Nipah virus infection in humans has a series of clinical presentations, from asymptomatic infectivity to sensitive respiratory syndrome and fatal encephalitis, as per the information of the World Health Organization (WHO).
