Kochi: On Tuesday Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the injured Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor at a hospital in Kerala, where the latter was admitted following an injury. Tharoor had suffered head injuries while performing 'thulabharam' ritual at a temple in the state on the occasion of Vishu on Monday. Tharoor, who is aiming for a hat-trick from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, took to Twitter and said he is touched by Sitharaman's gesture and said that civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics.  He tweeted"Touched by the gesture of @nsitharaman, who dropped by today morning to visit me in the hospital, amid her hectic electioneering in Kerala. Civility is a rare virtue in Indian politics - great to see her practice it by example!",.

The incident took place at a temple while Tharoor was performing 'thulabharam' ritual, in which a person is weighed against a commodity such as flowers, grains, fruits and similar articles in temples and the equal value or quantity is offered as donation.

Tharoor sustained injuries on his head, which required six stitches. Reports inform that he also suffered a minor leg injury after the hook of the weighing scale came off and hit his head. According to reports, the Congress leader performed the ritual at a Devi temple before embarking on his poll campaign. He was accompanied by his family members and party leaders and workers including MLA, V S Sivakumar.
