Nissan plans to replace the Micra, its popular car, with a brand-new compact electric vehicle. The carmaker said on Thursday that the next electric car would be built on the CMF B-EV architecture and will first be available in European markets. This is part of the Alliance 2030 plan of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

Renault's ElectriCity centre in France will produce the forthcoming Nissan tiny electric vehicle. According to Nissan, this future EV will also be the brand's entry-level vehicle. Nissan's Ambition 2030 goal, which intends to push electrification with new cars and technologies, will include the EV.

The CMF B-EV architecture allows it to keep its distinctive look. The future electric car will have sloping round-shaped LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights in the style of a ring, according to the company. As shown in the teaser image, this EV will be a hatchback with an elegantly curved roofline and sloping hood.

Nissan's Chief Operating Officer Ashwani Gupta stated that the all-new electric car would be developed by Nissan and developed and manufactured by Renault.

"Using our new shared platform, this all-new model will be designed by Nissan, engineered and built by Renault, maximising the use of our Alliance assets while keeping its Nissan-ness," stated Nissan COO. He also mentioned that this is an excellent illustration of the Alliance's "smart differentiation" strategy. "I am confident that this new model, which succeeds our legendary Micra, will give even more excitement to our consumers in Europe," Gupta said.

The car alliance has vowed to deliver 30 electric vehicles based on five distinct EV platforms as part of its Alliance 2030 strategy. By 2030, these five EV platforms are estimated to account for 90% of the electric cars produced by the alliance.
