BJP's Bhopal candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is leading over senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh by almost 40,000 votes. If the lead consolidates, then it will a major setback for the Congress as the party was on the front to cry foul over Sadhvi's candidature - as she is facing terror charges over Malegaon serial blasts and the case is still in court.

Speaking exclusively to a prominent media network, Sadhvi said that she won't comment right away, first, she wants to meet her mother. After meeting her mother, Sadhvi said, "Nischit meri Vijay Hogi, meri Vijay Mein dharma ki Vijay Hogi, Adharm ka Naash Hoga. Mein Bhopal ki Janta ka Aabhaar Deti hun,"

Bhopal is considered BJP bastion as the saffron party hasn't lost the seat since 1984. During the campaign, the BJP sent its stalwarts Uma Bharti and Sumitra Mahajan to campaign in Bhopal for the terror-accused on the poll plank of Hindutva, nationalism, and development while Digvijaya Singh has promised employment and development.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won 27 out of 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh while the Congress managed to get only two seats - it won Ratlam in 2015 in by-elections. During the 2009 general elections, BJP won 16 seats while the Congress secured 12 parliamentary constituencies.

In 2018 Assembly election, the Congress won 114 seats in the 230-member-Assembly election to oust BJP from power after 15 years. BJP came a close second with 109 seats.
