National Milk Day is celebrated all over India on 26th November today.  Because this day is the birthday of Dr Verghese Kurien, who brought about a white revolution in India. Today is the 100th birthday of the milkman of the country. Speaking on the occasion, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari wrote a photo share on Koo- Humble greetings to Padma Vibhushan Verghese Kurien Ji, the father of the Indian White Revolution, on his birth anniversary.


Dr Verghese Kurien was the founder of India's largest dairy product brand Amul (AMUL). Amul not only eliminated the shortage of milk in India but it started producing so much milk in the country that the villages also became happy and the country became self-reliant in the field of milk. In 1945-46, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel laid the foundation stone of the Cooperative Scheme for Milk. Subsequently, it was registered as a cooperative society in 1946. Kurien started Amul Dairy in 1949. Then everything they did went on to make history.

Made the country self-reliant in milk production:-
When the country got independence, there was a problem of foodgrains and the situation of milk production was very bad. Kurien is also known as 'Milkman of India'. At a time when there was a shortage of milk in India, under the leadership of Kurien, work started towards making India self-reliant in milk production. He along with Tribhuvan Bhai Patel started Kheda district cooperative society.
