The demand for electric vehicles in India is increasing day by day, and the government is also intensifying its efforts in this direction. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently said that in the next two years the prices of electric vehicles will become equal to those of petrol and diesel vehicles. Gadkari said this during the 64th ACMA Annual Session, in which he shared many important things about the future of electric vehicles.

Gadkari's view on subsidy on EV

Gadkari said that he has no problem with the Finance Minister giving subsidy on electric vehicles. However, earlier he had suggested that now EV manufacturers do not need subsidies because now their production cost has come down. Along with this, he also said that now consumers are choosing electric vehicles themselves, due to which their demand is increasing.

The growing popularity of electric vehicles in India

Gadkari also informed that last year the market share of electric vehicles in India reached 6.3%, which shows an increase of about 50% compared to the previous year. This clearly shows that the demand for electric vehicles is increasing rapidly in the Indian market.

Need to reduce dependence on fossil fuel

Gadkari also clarified that he is not against petrol and diesel, but India will have to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels (petrol and diesel). At present, India's dependence on fossil fuels is up to Rs 22 lakh crore, which is a huge amount. To reduce this, Gadkari stressed that we should adopt electric vehicles as well as ethanol and other biofuels.

Farmers are benefiting from ethanol

Gadkari also stressed the importance of ethanol and said that its use is increasing rapidly as a biofuel, which is also giving great benefits to the farmers. He said that due to the increasing demand for ethanol, the prices of corn have doubled, which has improved the income of farmers.

Example of Bajaj's CNG bike

In his speech, Nitin Gadkari also mentioned the world's first CNG bike (Bajaj CNG), launched recently. He said that the cost of this bike is Rs 1 per km, whereas the cost of a petrol bike is more than Rs 2. This makes it clear that CNG and electric vehicles are not only better for the environment but are also economical. It is clear from these statements of Nitin Gadkari that India is rapidly moving towards electric and biofuel-based vehicles. The aim of the government is not only to reduce pollution but also to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. In such a situation, the demand for electric vehicles will increase even more rapidly in the coming few years, due to which affordable, accessible and environment-friendly vehicles will be available to everyone.
