New Delhi: The Central Government has made a major announcement for closed sugar mills. Union Micro, Small and Medium Industries (MSME) Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the government will restart the closed sugar mills. Ethanol will be produced. For this, the government is going to make a new policy. Financial assistance will also be given to the needy mills in this policy.

The Union Minister said that the ethanol production industry can reach Rs 1 lakh crore from the current 25 thousand crore, which can reduce the annual import bill of crude by Rs 7 lakh crore. Gadkari said that many sugar mills are still closed due to financial constraints. We will prepare a cabinet note for this so that the 5-6 acres of land of these mills can be used for ethanol production.

The government will soon prepare its policy. Gadkari said that an agreement has been made with multi-level bank KFW for the use of green energy in the MSME sector. I would recommend loans to sugar mills at low interest from this bank as well and a mechanism will be developed with the Ministry of Petroleum for this. After the process of making ethanol from sugarcane started, the economy of major sugarcane producing states UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab and Haryana will boom. At the same time, he assured that the proliferation of alternative fuels does not mean that the government will ban petrol and diesel-powered vehicles in the coming days.
