Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has called on state finance ministers to consider lowering the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on vehicles powered by flex-fuel, urging a reduction of 12%. Speaking at the India Bio-Energy & Tech Expo, Gadkari emphasized the importance of alternative fuel options, particularly for families using second-hand vehicles and those who frequently travel by road for pilgrimages.

Gadkari highlighted the significance of the ethanol-based economy, noting that flex-fuel vehicles play a crucial role in this transition. He mentioned that major automakers, including Tata, Suzuki, and Toyota, have already committed to introducing flex-engine cars in India.

In a recent statement, Gadkari expressed his strong belief that the future belongs to electric vehicles, alternative fuels, and biofuels. He noted that companies like Bajaj, TVS, and Hero are planning to manufacture motorcycles with flex engines, and auto-rickshaws using similar technology are also in development.

Gadkari shared his personal experience, stating, "I drive a car that runs on hydrogen. Electric cars are becoming a common sight in households. People who once thought this was impossible are now starting to believe in what I have been advocating for the past 20 years."

He further mentioned that companies like Tata and Ashok Leyland have introduced hydrogen-powered trucks, and there are now trucks running on LNG and CNG. Additionally, there are 350 bio-CNG factories across the country.

Gadkari concluded with a vision for the future, stating, "A revolution is underway. Fuel imports will eventually come to an end, and India will achieve self-reliance, or Atmanirbhar Bharat. I firmly believe in this."
