SEOUL : North Korea's ruling Workers' Party sent a formal message to the Communist Party of China denouncing United States's House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Taiwan last week as a "shameless provocation", Pyongyang's state media reported on August 10.

According to Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the Korea's ruling Workers' Party (WPK) also referred to the US House of Representatives' visit as a "severe infringement" of Beijing's sovereignty in the "solidarity letter" it sent to the party's central committee the day before.

The WPK then committed to continuing providing full support regarding the Taiwanese crisis and expressed "full support" for the CPC and the Chinese government in their "fair and reasonable" actions to "resolutely repulse the US arbitrariness," according to a report from the KCNA.

Following Pelosi's visit to Taiwan last week, Pyongyang's foreign ministry swiftly denounced it as a "impudent intrusion" in the domestic affairs of another country.

In light of the rising tensions between Washington and Beijing, North Korea lately emphasised its close connections with China.

Pelosi's visit to the Joint Security Area at the Korean border last week made her the highest-profile American to go there since then-President Donald Trump visited in 2019 for a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
